La Pagoda - Original Asian Restaurant

This asian restaurant named as the typical Asian worship temple: La Pagoda,  has been one of my latest discoveries in the Bernabeu area. It was love at first sight, big windows to a small but bright tropical interior where a nice green wallpaper and wood welcome the visitor. Its concept is eatery and bar and during the summer, they also have a nice terrace.

A longed opening - the Florida Retiro

Dancing at the Florida Retir
Dancing at the Florida Retiro
There was great expectation in Madrid about the reopening of the mythic and longed Florida Retiro inside the Retiro Park and we were lucky to be invited to the glamorous opening party last Friday.

September in Madrid, Some Good Tips!

September is here. Are we back to routine? Not necessarily...
Holidays may be over but there are many things to do to extend holiday feeling. Madrid has lots to offer and the weather is still very good. I propose the following activities for the rentrée:

Tapan - Japanese Tapas Bar in Chamberí

If you fancy authentic Japanese food and do not want to spend big sums I have a good tip for you: Tapan in Chamberi, 46 Bretón de los Herreros. It is a real Japanese Tapas Bar owned and managed by two Japanese young cooks who had the good idea to merge Spanish traditions, such as “menu del día” and “tapas” with Japanese gastronomy.

El Perro y la Galleta, the new cool place in Madrid!

El Perro y la Galleta, dog lovers specially welcome!!
I had come across this restaurant while it was under renovation, and was intrigued by why it had such an original name: El Perro y La Galleta, which literally means The Dog and The Cookie. Its logo, old-fashioned and elegant, made me think of a perfume shop or an elegant pet shop.

La Cocina de San Anton, an Exciting Terrace in Chueca

Now that the weather seems to be more pleasant but still not as hot as spring time, I come with a suggestion for those of you who want to start feeling the open air terraces... I am talking about la Cocina de San Antón on the 3rd floor of Mercado de San Antón.

Caray! a Gastronomic Surprise!

Our suggestion for this week, is a special one: Caray. First of all, because some of the owners are dear friends, Barbara Perez Manzabeitia and Luis Sartorius. This lovely couple along with a spanish sports champion, Alberto Piñón and the wonderful team of one of the best tapas places of Madrid, La Monteria, have recently opened this restaurant. Such a combination was certain to be a success! The name chosen is a spanish expression to describe surprise.

Calle Ponzano, the Coolest Foodie Street

We are big fans of Ponzano Street, it seems that it’s becoming the coolest street for tapas and lunch. anywhere you go, you’ll get a nice surprise. Our favorites, the original Sala de Despiece, the popular Fide yummi pizzas at Picsa, and last but not least La Contraseña. Therefore, do not worry if you head to Ponzano without a reservation; any of those places will be a good choice and you can go back any time to try the rest of them.

Restaurant Marieta - the new place to be seen at!

As the month of September still allows for the enjoyment of terraces, our recommendation for today is for those readers who have to hold business lunches in nice sunny places. Marieta was opened before the summer holidays and became the place to be seen in Madrid, with its perfect location, beautiful people and cool decor.

Tip for September: a picnic at the Retiro by Magasand

So, we are back in town and it’s official, the holidays are over. We all look very suntanned but inside a terrible post-holiday depression has overcome us… no more outdoor activities either in the sea or the mountains, the majority of us are now confined to be in front of a computer.
Summer holidays are over and we have the pavement as landscape, however, we at My Little Madrid have a recommendation that will, for sure, make you feel as though coming back to the city wasn’t so terrible... as you will have the feeling again of being free among nature!!
You just have to follow our instructions:

If there is a place in the world for enjoying food, that is Madrid! The Spanish capital is the meeting point when it comes to trying tapas from all over the country. Worldwide travellers discover every year the secret of this city´s cuisine: a beautiful mixture of dishes shaped over the years by people from all over Spain. From posh Barrio de Salamanca to the alternative Lavapiés area, Madrid is a tapas paradise still to discover!

El Huerto de Lucas, a new ecogastrocultural market!

el huerto de lucas interior
I am so happy with this new eco trend going on in Madrid! Last Sunday I went to El Huerto de Lucas, in San Lucas 13, a covered market with a nice restaurant in the middle that is worth a visit, especially as walking down the Street you don’t seem to realize that there is a huge space of 450 square meters inside that can be considered as an eco-paradise! Actually their motto is ‘the first medicine is food’!

Mama Campo David y Nacho
David and Nacho
After reading so many good reviews, I could finally visit Mama Campo and was happy to see that, not only it is one of the hot spots of the moment, but it also has a great service and an awesome philosophy: eat great, healthy and responsible in a nice decor.

Spanish Taberna: La Imperial de Raimundo

My recommendation today is very special and I am convinced it will be a pleasant surprise: La Imperial de Raimundo. I discovered them at the second floor of the Mercado de San Antón, where they have a long wooden table and a lovely terrace. Now they just opened a second Imperial in Nuevos Ministerios area that is worth the visit.
Courageous entrepreneurs! The new Imperial de Raimundo keeps the same young, original and patriotic spirit that is part of their success and a bigger terrace!

National Geographic store in Madrid - New Menu

national geographic party in madrid

Although the National Geographic Store is in Madrid since 2010, I had never visited it simply because I did not know about its existence. It was a nice surprise to be invited to the renewal presentation party that took place on Thursday. And even more surprising to realize that this huge space has nothing to envy to the London National Geographic Store, it is even better! Specially the restaurant and its new menu.

Glamourous Affordable Tapas at Hotel Westin Palace

My Little Madrid at the Westin Palace

One of the most common ways to enjoy life and friends in Spain is going for tapas, (small little bites of food) we love it in bars where the atmosphere is noisy, standing up in front of a barra (stand), very informally. However, my suggestion for today is slightly different and even more appealing!

One of the better known hotels in Madrid is the Westin Palace, known by Madrid natives as The Palace. Once you walk the stairs an elegant concierge opens for you the door and you enter into a five stars world! Can we mix the tapas concept with glamour and luxe? The good news is that Chef Diego Guerrero from Club Allard, two Michelin stars restaurant, together with the Westin Palace have prepared a special tapas menu!
