I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Casa Decor 2013 - A Yearly Appointment (we cannot miss)

Another year Casa Decor opens its doors in Madrid!! This time more challenging than ever. Designers need to transform a very 60's circular shaped office building, former british embassy, into residential spaces. Conceived as a diplomatic complex, the building is self-contained with its own system of security, electrical and water systems. And a very difficult layout. A real challenge and an extraordinary outcome! worth the visit!

Pop Up Christmas Shopping in Madrid - The Appartment & Madrid in Love

It’s late for Santa but still in time for the Three Wise Men (los Reyes Magos), which is the real tradition in Spain for Christmas presents.

I have been actively searching the perfect gift and I am ready to recommend two singular Pop-Up Stores: The Apartment (6 December – 6 January) and Madrid in Love.

My Little Best Plans for December in Madrid

We are approaching the end of the year… And yet we still have to face tons of dinners, lunches and crazy shopping... our goal this year is to stay calm and, instead of spending like crazy and getting very stressed, try the following activities that will make you enjoy the city and season:

La Comercial - Nice Shopping for Christmas Presents

bustier dress by Cristina Ponce de Leon
Look what you can do with your cheeseburger wrappings!!!

La Comercial de Villanueva is an interesting space full of imagination. Carefully selected objects for women, mothers and their daughters; clothes, accessories, books, candles, paintings, ceramic, furniture and much more... Besides its own brand, Casiopea, La Comercial offers national and foreign brands such as NIU, Les Petits Hauts de Paris and Bella Jones.

And the most interesting thing is the opportunity La Comercial provides to young designers and artists who show a promising talent. Two awesome and striking works by artist Cristina Ponce de León are shown at present. One is a bustier dress made out of cheeseburger wrappings and the other a dress made out of wood clothespins.

It deserves a visit, either for christmas shopping or just to admire the work of Cristina Ponce de León.

Tu Trato - Furniture and Antiques Secondhand Market

Fortunately, even though there is a strong economic crisis, Spanish people are hard workers and full of resources to develop new useful concepts. My last discovery has been Tu Trato.es. It is a big warehouse in central Madrid (Cuatro Caminos) that contains secondhand, vintage and antique furniture and decoration objects. The innovative thing is that all items are under a deposit formula by owners and can be either rented or purchased. Imagine you need a big table for Christmas dinner because this year it’s your turn, no problem! Rent a table and chairs just for the occasion and then return everything to the warehouse.

Petra Mora - Stylish food at a good price

cheeses form Petra Mora

A new grocery store has opened in Salamanca district, just in front of Mercado de la Paz. The nieces of designer Adolfo Dominguez, María y Uxía Domínguez, owners of Bimba y Lola, are behind this new concept of low cost gourmet products with which they expect to revolutionize the elite food industry.

Even though it has been initially conceived as an on-line business www.petramora.com they have decided to establish a unique shop in Ayala 21. The concept is quite revolutionary; create a brand that brings together some of the best food processors and producers of high-end. An ambitious project by the name of Petra Mora.

Cuca and Pep - a new space for antiques and decoration

Exquisite and charming place discovered very recently thanks to My Little Sant Cugat.
Cuca and Pep Boixader, with their adorable children have just arrived to Madrid, bringing fresh and innovative ideas for interior decoration. Their home at calle Magdalena 17 is also their showroom. In an incredible ancient old Madrid building you will find bright huge spaces with fascinating antique furniture resulting in a striking modern atmosphere. All furniture shown is on sale being, at the same time, part of a live ambiance.

Patch - Menswear

patch menswear

Patch is a new menswear brand 100% Made in Spain, recently opened in Madrid in a street that I like very much, quiet and calm but very elegant: Blanca de Navarra 3.  In successive posts I will be reporting other interesting shops worth to be mentioned in that same street. You can say Patch has an English flavour but also traditionally Italian and American east coast. Nice special colours and unique elegant cuts. Bomber jackets, blazers in corduroy with original lining, gabardine pants or plaid shirts are examples of the wide range of products and accessories you can find there. Scott Schuman, from "the Sartorialist" recommends it!!!!!!

A mix of vintage furniture and objects plus the possibility to eat and drink simple things like salads and sandwiches from Magasand. A good choice for lovely weekend mornings!!!

San Antón Market in Madrid

A vegetable wall for a veggy shop
Someone at the Town Hall started with this good idea to recover old district markets (spanish mercados de abastos) that were abandoned and refurbish them as new hot spots for the city. Today the trendiest place to buy food or to have a snack in Madrid is Mercado de San Antón or Mercado de San Miguel, and I've heard there are some others programmed shortly...!! I must say I like it.

Concept Stores - Federica & Co

Federica & Co
Hermosilla 26

It is a recent trend to find cool places where a bunch of creative young people gather selling all different items not related among them but that somehow work well together. They usually find nice commercial spaces and create a concept that is simple but classy. Probably one of the consequences of the economical crisis that we are suffering makes people gather and think that being united will help their business! And I think it does!!

Wine - La Carta de Vinos

Yesterday I was invited by Melona Ariza and Gonzalo Verdera to the presentation of some wines from Bodegas Luis Cañas and Bodegas Amaren at an amazing new space called La Carta de Vinos.
It came to life as an extension to web page todovino.com since they felt the need to have a place where clients would be able to taste, touch and feel their wines. Just opened two months ago and it is already a great success. Exquisitely decorated by Sandra Tarruella, they have over 500 different types of wine nicely exposed from floor to ceiling along the walls of this 500 square meters shop at the heart of Chamberi. All excellent wines with a varied range of prices. A great recommendation for wine lovers!!!

Beauty for chest and facial wrinkles

Today something different, a cool hint! tested and really working!
I recently bought this amazing product directly in Madrid from Padbeauty, got it in two days, used it right away and it does work!
I tried both products one for chest wrinkles and one for facial wrinkles. They are both designed to reduce existing wrinkles and expression lines and prevent new ones from forming. You wear them while sleeping or hours before a party and the result is as you see in the pictures. No additives, fillers, latex or adhesives are used. Pads may be washed without losing their adhesive quality and usually last 30 days depending on usage time and skin conditions.
Always liked before and after photos

Ancient Prints - Ojeda at El Rastro

Nuevas Galerias at el Rastro
Ojeda on the right

Every Sunday el Rastro is a due appointment. I will disclose my favourite places in this blog, one by one, and for a start I propose a very nice old prints and engravings shop at Nuevas Galerias; Alonso Ojeda. It’s situated at the ground level of the galleria on the right side shop number 28. It has a huge choice of old maps and old prints, including views of Madrid. Prices are very convenient and you can do some bargain  (part of el Rastro fun).

Funny print with a recipe for 30€

Knitting Lessons - Peseta

Kinitting lessons in Madrid

It seems to be the ultimate tendency in Madrid!! Knitting lessons!
In Noviciado 9, close to San Bernardo, in a very genuine neighborhood, you can find Peseta: a very special space for shopping and others. Clothing, wallets, key rings, everything crafted there can be purchased and become an original gift you wouldn’t find elsewhere. But not only; they have done collaboration works with Lomography, Marc Jacobs, Loreak Mendian, Primavera Sound, New Museum, Mugaritz, Eastpak and Berlinale.
