I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Mala Femmena is a new italian restaurant in the area of Doctor Esquerdo. You have probably already eaten in a restaurant of the Pulcinella Group like Ornella of which we already wrote a post, Pulcinella, Maruzzella or Rigatoni.

This time they have decided to make a more feminine proposal. Of course it's an ideal place to go for both men and women, but they have taken great care of the decoration to make it more elegant and delicate.

Quinoa Salad

The main dishes also include fish and various salads such as quinoa with mussels, which I loved. The pastas are as rich and delicious as in Italy, I couldn't stop eating Pacheri with Bogavante and the pizzas I don't have words. It's hard to take care of the line in a place where you eat so well!

Pacheri with lobster! delicious
The name Mala Femmena comes from Totó's song: and describes women who know how to make a man suffer.
Inside the restaurant

Parking available for dinners and during week ends

Terraces in Madrid- Chapter I

At last the time of terraces has arrived! We thought it would be good to make a little compilation of the terraces we like most about Madrid in different posts.  Here's our first chapter, three terraces for three different moments:

  • Intimate and charming, La Encarna Bistró Andaluz
  • Chic and healthy, The Velázquez
  • Urban and in the heights, Picalagartos

La Encarna Terrace!

La Encarna Bistró Andaluz, this terrace hidden in a small street in the centre of Madrid called Recaredo, hides an oasis to disconnect from the noise of the city and travel to Andalusia. The best raw material from this region but with a sophisticated touch like its terrace.
Encarna Ensaladilla

The perfect place to share, as they offer the option of rations and half rations. I recommend the bull's tail that is cooked 8 hours in a row, the shrimp salad and the salmorejo, super refreshing for these days.

El Velázquez

The Velázquez 17, located at the beginning of Calle Velázquez, is part of the Murillo Café group that also has a lovely terrace.  The terrace is very pleasant for meetings of friends and work. Being located in the street, allows you to greet acquaintances who walk or simply act as a voyeur of the traffic of people who pass by. We are very fond of the new salad menu they have prepared for this summer, all healthy and refreshing like the beetroot and goat cheese salad, one of my favorites.

Great views in Picalagartos

Picalagartos Sky-Bar, is the new bet of chef Javier Muñoz-Calero and his group Azotea at the NH Collection Hotel in Gran Via 21, decorated by Mercedes Isasa, offers one of the best views over the mythical street of Gran Via with the best bet of traditional Madrid cuisine.

Typical Madrilian Tapas
From the top of Madrid, with an original selection of dishes known to everyone and reinterpreted: Callos a la Madrileña, the Bravas Montera, or the Esponjositos con rejos de chipirón a la romana con ali oli de ajo negro my favorite dish, a delicious sandwich!

Peruvian Restaurant: Quispe

In the area of Alonso Martinez there is a great variety of restaurants and bars. A few weeks ago where the belgian restaurant Mejillón was, I discovered that a new Peruvian restaurant called Quispe had replaced it.

Nikkei: fusion from Japanese and Peruvian

My favorite Lomo Saltado

Those of you who follow us know what we love Peruvian restaurants. The name is a wink to the country as Quispe is one of the most common surnames in Peru.

The decoration is elegant and sobber but some Peruvian details will be found in the lovely photographs hanging on the walls or the cushions with Peruvian fabrics.

Delicious Ceviche!!
In the menu divided into Cold Dishes, hot dishes and signature tapas you will find delicious cebiches and tiraditos to Nikkei products such as makis and niguiris. But what I found extraordinary and that I would not get tired of eating was the delicious Pisco Saur I had as well as the traditional Peruvian dish Lomo Saltado, and a super original dessert of Coulant de Lúcuma which is a typical Peruvian fruit with chocolate.

Hope you like, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday

New opening in Gran Via, Gran Clavel

Gran Via has a new restaurant worth going to, it's called Gran Clavel and I tried it last week. In fact, more than just a restaurant, they have three foodie concepts so that everyone who enters the restaurant can find what they are looking for with a Madrid touch, between classic and modern.

Vermuteria - tapas bar
On the one hand, there is vermouth bar, where you can have a more informal "tapas" with vermouth, which is the typical drink, or of course with a beer or wine, but as the people of Madrid like it, a tapa to accompany either a potato omelette or some good anchovies.

In addition, Gran Clavel has the Casa de Comidas, that shows the typical recipes of Madrid and Spain but with a more modern touch. I loved the Russian salad, the artichokes and the delicious fish like the ray. On Saturdays, they offer stew on the menu, very appetising on these cold days.

Casa de Comidas
I loved this dessert.. Strawberries with vinegar
Finally, if you're more of a wine lover, there's a wine bar with a special attention to the wines of the Madrid area. It's not just Rioja or Ribera!

Poke Bowl Invasion

This is Poke!
There is an indisputable trend going on in Madrid for the last months, I am talking about Poke. I first heard about it a year ago, I was told that hawaiian surfers were very fond about it and I was surprised by its simplicity and freshness. Poke is all about raw fish cut in dices with vegetables and usually a basis of rice served in a bowl with a great variety of other possible ingredients like vegetables and sauces.

Pizzeria Grosso Napoletano, the real Napoli taste

We have recently visited Grosso Napoletano, which is a great brand new pizzeria located in 85, Hermosilla. Even though it only opened two months ago, it already has a long list of fans, which we totally understand as the experience was super good and tasty.

Have a Scrumptious Brunch at Meat Restaurant

New Meat in Vallehermoso 72
As big fans of the hamburgers of Meat Madrid, we were delighted to hear that their business is going so well that they have opened a new Meat Madrid at 72, Vallehermoso street. The look remains as cool as in Alonso Martinez, (4, Santa Teresa street) where you will find an industrial decoration with bricks and beams and where you will get the same tasty hamburgers, milkshakes and french fries.

Pointer- Party Time!

Pointer in Plaza Colón is without any doubt one of the new places to be and be seen. It has opened recently in an enormous venue close to Plaza Colón and its two floors are always fully booked. The secret of their success is the crowd, mostly in their early thirties with sufficient budget to spend on food and drinks and looking forward to having a great time.

Mejillón - Moules, Bière, Frites

If you have travelled to Belgium, I am sure the concept Moules et Frites is familiar to you. I have always loved it, as it is: a simple and cheap meal which is also quite fun. Actually, my friends and I were wondering why in Madrid there weren’t any places where you could just have mussels and french fries.
It seems that my demand was heard and last week I had the chance to visit Mejillón. It is exactly what it sounds like: mussels in a big casserole, french fries and a choice of more than 30 different beers. Belgium dessert specialities like the famous gaufre are also available.

Tuk tuk and Deliveroo’s special discount for My little Madrid readers

I have recently discovered the only Asian street food restaurant that exists in Madrid: TUK TUK Street food   It has been a great surprise because they have a nice selection of food from Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapour. In fact, when you go there you get a mild feeling of travelling to Asia, where it is quite common to eat all kind of different foods in the streets: tasty, cheap and all in small bites.

El Perro y la Galleta, the new cool place in Madrid!

El Perro y la Galleta, dog lovers specially welcome!!
I had come across this restaurant while it was under renovation, and was intrigued by why it had such an original name: El Perro y La Galleta, which literally means The Dog and The Cookie. Its logo, old-fashioned and elegant, made me think of a perfume shop or an elegant pet shop.

Aire, New “Rotisserie" in Town

In the restaurant Aire you will forget about busy Madrid. Here, I got the feeling that I was going back in time, to the basics of the cuisine. In fact, the decoration just enhances this feeling: wood, chopping boards pending on the walls, a big countryside photo with geese and an enormous open kitchen. In it there is a large wooden table where everything is cooked and prepared in front of you.
