I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Miss Chou, a Delicious Bite!

A French sweet speciality has arrived in town – the Petit Choux! The place to buy them is: Miss Chou. I hope it won’t be a temporary success just like the already forgotten cronut. They are very well known in France and first appeared in the XVIth century!

Bisutería Otero, a Piece of Madrid that Vanishes

Walking around Calle Mayor you get, nowadays, a sad feeling. Many shops are closing because of the expiry of the old law which allowed them to have a low rent. Most of those venues are traditional and popular businesses. One of them is Bisutería Otero. It was opened in 1905 and will definitely close at the end of March.

La libreria, a Bookshop for Madrid Lovers (like us)

In the very “castiza” calle Mayor, we discovered a very original book shop, with more than 1,000 references to Madrid!!: La Librería. Of course, we loved it and it was impressive to see books about art, history, curiosities, songs and sayings, terror stories.. all about Madrid! If you are keen on the city, this is for sure, the bookshop you need.

Gunter Gallery - Art Presents for Christmas

Ricardo Cavolo
Christmas presents are a concern for all of us. Gunter Gallery is a good option, an on-line art gallery for Young art collectors. They produce their own art pieces via the printmaking technique. All the impressions made in their atelier are numbered in limited edition and you get a certificate from the gallery.

Lalabeyou - Buy or Create your Own Jewelry!

I made a nice discovery while walking the other day through Belen Street, doing some window shopping. At first, I was amazed to see many drawings displayed with original jewelry. I was not sure whether it was a shop or a gallery. A smiley lady inside informed me it was both, and also a jewel atelier: Contemporary Jewelry Galery Lalabeyou!

Tip for September: a picnic at the Retiro by Magasand

So, we are back in town and it’s official, the holidays are over. We all look very suntanned but inside a terrible post-holiday depression has overcome us… no more outdoor activities either in the sea or the mountains, the majority of us are now confined to be in front of a computer.
Summer holidays are over and we have the pavement as landscape, however, we at My Little Madrid have a recommendation that will, for sure, make you feel as though coming back to the city wasn’t so terrible... as you will have the feeling again of being free among nature!!
You just have to follow our instructions:

Il Tavolo Verde, Organic Café and Antique Market

Big glass windows, lovely antic furniture, organic food and a pleasant atmosphere close to the Retiro: I am talking about Il Tavolo Verde, (which in italian stands for the gaming table). The perfect place to go to by yourself for a relaxing lunch or tea time with a book. I sometimes feel that in Madrid, there are not enough places to go to on your own when you find yourself in a quiet mood.

La Portegna - Elegant Personalized Leather bags

Walking through Salamanca district, a little bench outside a shop made me look through their window. Very elegant leather items were nicely displayed, the name made me think of Argentina: La Portegna. And surprise! it is a Spanish brand 100% made in Spain.

La Central - Much More than a Bookstore

La central de callao My Little Madrid

We are big fans of the fantastic bookstore La Central in Callao! We consider it much more than a bookstore for many reasons. Firstly, they have more than 80 000 book references in several languages and many different sections that avoid the typical collection of best sellers you find elsewhere. It is a library within a 19th century palace. If you feel hungry or want to take a rest, you can also try their great “Bistro” with very tasty food options for breakfast, lunch or tea time. You can even stay for drinks at night in their bar, "el Garito" , where many events and book presentations take place.

National Geographic store in Madrid - New Menu

national geographic party in madrid

Although the National Geographic Store is in Madrid since 2010, I had never visited it simply because I did not know about its existence. It was a nice surprise to be invited to the renewal presentation party that took place on Thursday. And even more surprising to realize that this huge space has nothing to envy to the London National Geographic Store, it is even better! Specially the restaurant and its new menu.

YellowKorner- Accesible Contemporary Art

The new YELLOWKORNER shop in Madrid
One of the good things about traveling is to discover new concepts never-before-seen in Madrid. In one of my last trips to Paris I discovered a photography shop called YellowKorner and inmediately thought: why don’t we have a shop like this in Madrid?
They read my thoughts. Walking through Salamanca District, I got a nice surprise. Yellow Korner just opened a shop in Madrid! Sigue leyendo, en español más abajo

Pop Up Christmas Shopping in Madrid - The Appartment & Madrid in Love

It’s late for Santa but still in time for the Three Wise Men (los Reyes Magos), which is the real tradition in Spain for Christmas presents.

I have been actively searching the perfect gift and I am ready to recommend two singular Pop-Up Stores: The Apartment (6 December – 6 January) and Madrid in Love.

My Little Best Plans for December in Madrid

We are approaching the end of the year… And yet we still have to face tons of dinners, lunches and crazy shopping... our goal this year is to stay calm and, instead of spending like crazy and getting very stressed, try the following activities that will make you enjoy the city and season:

La Comercial - Nice Shopping for Christmas Presents

bustier dress by Cristina Ponce de Leon
Look what you can do with your cheeseburger wrappings!!!

La Comercial de Villanueva is an interesting space full of imagination. Carefully selected objects for women, mothers and their daughters; clothes, accessories, books, candles, paintings, ceramic, furniture and much more... Besides its own brand, Casiopea, La Comercial offers national and foreign brands such as NIU, Les Petits Hauts de Paris and Bella Jones.

And the most interesting thing is the opportunity La Comercial provides to young designers and artists who show a promising talent. Two awesome and striking works by artist Cristina Ponce de León are shown at present. One is a bustier dress made out of cheeseburger wrappings and the other a dress made out of wood clothespins.

It deserves a visit, either for christmas shopping or just to admire the work of Cristina Ponce de León.

Tu Trato - Furniture and Antiques Secondhand Market

Fortunately, even though there is a strong economic crisis, Spanish people are hard workers and full of resources to develop new useful concepts. My last discovery has been Tu Trato.es. It is a big warehouse in central Madrid (Cuatro Caminos) that contains secondhand, vintage and antique furniture and decoration objects. The innovative thing is that all items are under a deposit formula by owners and can be either rented or purchased. Imagine you need a big table for Christmas dinner because this year it’s your turn, no problem! Rent a table and chairs just for the occasion and then return everything to the warehouse.

Carmen Muñoz - Custom Hand Painted Tableware

A very Spanish name for a nice and quiet little atelier and shop in Justianiano street: Carmen Muñoz, one of the trendiest streets in Plaza de las Salesas district. You will be able to hand paint your own tableware or buy a personalised collection specially crafted for you.

Cuca and Pep - a new space for antiques and decoration

Exquisite and charming place discovered very recently thanks to My Little Sant Cugat.
Cuca and Pep Boixader, with their adorable children have just arrived to Madrid, bringing fresh and innovative ideas for interior decoration. Their home at calle Magdalena 17 is also their showroom. In an incredible ancient old Madrid building you will find bright huge spaces with fascinating antique furniture resulting in a striking modern atmosphere. All furniture shown is on sale being, at the same time, part of a live ambiance.

Patch - Menswear

patch menswear

Patch is a new menswear brand 100% Made in Spain, recently opened in Madrid in a street that I like very much, quiet and calm but very elegant: Blanca de Navarra 3.  In successive posts I will be reporting other interesting shops worth to be mentioned in that same street. You can say Patch has an English flavour but also traditionally Italian and American east coast. Nice special colours and unique elegant cuts. Bomber jackets, blazers in corduroy with original lining, gabardine pants or plaid shirts are examples of the wide range of products and accessories you can find there. Scott Schuman, from "the Sartorialist" recommends it!!!!!!
