I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Open-air concerts in Olivar de Castillejo

Previous moment before the concert

Madrid is full of wonderful secrets, today it is the turn of an oasis of nature and music in the middle of the city. I am talking about the Olivar de Castillejo, a magical place near the busy Alberto Alcocer Street. In this olive grove, it seems that Napoleon himself slept with his troops during the War of Independence.

Cute terrace to grab a drink before concert

It is now a Foundation created by the descendants of the original owner, José de Castillejo who was a naturalist and intellectual. And thanks to him, we can enjoy his programme of open-air concerts in the summer. It is a luxury to be able to appear in the middle of nature to enjoy a concert of classical music and a good aperitif thanks to the small terrace installed near the stage. So between olive trees, a few rabbits and for only 10 euros (important only in cash), you forget that outside it is terribly hot and that you are in the city!

The ambiance

You can check the programme here, the best thing is to arrive about 30 minutes before the concert with your mask on because the capacity is reduced to 100 people.

Enjoy and if you like it, please don't stop sharing it with us!

Tip for September: a picnic at the Retiro by Magasand

So, we are back in town and it’s official, the holidays are over. We all look very suntanned but inside a terrible post-holiday depression has overcome us… no more outdoor activities either in the sea or the mountains, the majority of us are now confined to be in front of a computer.
Summer holidays are over and we have the pavement as landscape, however, we at My Little Madrid have a recommendation that will, for sure, make you feel as though coming back to the city wasn’t so terrible... as you will have the feeling again of being free among nature!!
You just have to follow our instructions:

Second hand books at La Cuesta del Moyano

Since we still are in an almost-holiday-period and the weather is becoming less agressive I propose a nice traditional walk; La Cuesta del Moyano. It has been long time since my last walk through these stalls, I had almost forgotten, but on my way to the Hoper exhibition it has been a nice surprise to discover this Madrid land mark not only unspoiled but improved (now pedestrian) and restored.

Simply relaxing at El Retiro

Misterious, fresh and eternal, the Retiro Park has been my choice for these boiling summer days. So many little corners, so many little lives, joys and sorrows, have passed, are passing and will go through these paths... So many literary memories... A little melancholy but not a second to get bored. Very inspiring walk through a timeless Madrid, which will endure crises as it has always done ... If you are in Madrid take profit of Retiro without people, just for you. Relax and sit under a leafy tree with your book...

Happy summer to all!!

Having a dog in Madrid is quite a job though the city is quietly becoming more organized and dog friendly.

Sports at the Retiro - Rollerblading

The two main things about Madrid that I probably enjoy the best in my daily life are the light (already mentioned in the blog) and the Retiro Park!! Especially now that the rain and the cold temperatures have finally disappeared… it’s time to enjoy the Retiro!
And why not… instead of going to the gym go to the Retiro for a nice and sunny sporty experience!
My suggestions for sports at the Retiro will come in different posts. This week I recommend Rollerblading!

Blossom of almond trees in Madrid

Spring has sprung!! and we get a wisp of it by contemplating the flourishing almond trees. Although we are not in Japan.. you cannot complain if I tell you where to go and visit them. But do hurry up, flowers only last for 20 days...
There is a hidden place in Madrid, at the end of Alcala street, with more than 1500 almond trees. Easily reachable by metro, Suances station, and then go to the park called la Quinta de los Molinos.  You'll be among the few lucky people to watch this spectacular event mother nature offers for free.
To see some more blossom my other recommendation is Retiro Park. Near the closest entrance to Atocha on the right side getting out of the park, you have parterres with lovely flowering trees waiting for you!!
Smile and enjoy and take pictures!!
