I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Pueblo Inglés - Full Immersion English Just minutes Away from Madrid

We made an exception and on today’s post, we travelled far away from Madrid. Actually, we found ourselves in the middle of the Batuecas Sierra (Salamanca), in a lovely landscape of acorn trees and wood and stone chalets. This place is called Pueblo Inglés, and for a week, you’ll find yourself living in an anglo/spanish melting pot with people you have never met before. However, this isn’t the most characteristic thing of the stay as you will only be able to communicate in English. Spanish is forbidden even among Spanish and waiters in the restaurant. Among the Anglos, there are many different cultures; Canadians, English and Americans have been enrolled as volunteers for this week’s program.

Therefore it is probably the best place to practice your English outside English-speaking countries and you’ll also have a nice feeling of being on vacation. The countryside and the food served in the dining room with a broad range of choices is frankly outstanding. You also have some free time to enjoy the practice of sports and a close spa if you need to feel even more relaxed.

Mobiles and computers can only be used in your free time and far away from the rest of your colleagues. The activities we are enrolled in, made me think of the summer camps I used to go to when I was a child. Theatre, mime, games and more formal activities as one to one conversations with Anglos on a specific subject and presentations using powerpoint (mine will of course be focused on My Little Madrid!).

I specially enjoyed visiting around nice villages like Alberca with traditional fabric industry and gourmet products (Jamón ibérico is especially good in this part of Spain) and stone wood architecture.

It is also nice to put yourself outside your confort zone as from first glance you don’t recognise yourself in the program speaking in a different language and interacting with unknown people, but as always you challenge yourself. You discover great stories behind the people and you realize how relaxed you became and how your English skills have improved!

Does not look very English, does it?

  1. I agree with the tip of not trying too hard to imitate the way of speaking. Aside from it's annoying, I think it will just blow their chances. Thanks for sharing.
