Fortunately, even though there is a strong economic crisis, Spanish people are hard workers and full of resources to develop new useful concepts. My last discovery has been
Tu Trato.es. It is a big warehouse in central Madrid (Cuatro Caminos) that contains secondhand, vintage and antique furniture and decoration objects. The innovative thing is that all items are under a deposit formula by owners and can be either rented or purchased. Imagine you need a big table for Christmas dinner because this year it’s your turn, no problem! Rent a table and chairs just for the occasion and then return everything to the warehouse.

It is also a good solution for Christmas presents; things are quite cheap and in good shape. You can bargain or wait, because goods are marked down according to the time they remain under deposit. For those who have been to Boston it will remind you of the Filene’s Basement concept.
And they also have online shopping in their web page,
www.tutrato.es, including a catalog of goods. Though my advice is to go there and see the new merchandise that arrives every day; you might miss a good deal!!!

Conrad, I must say that I have been at Tu Trato several times, as I like to sneek arround, and have bought diferent objets, furniture or curiosities. From a brand new sofa at an incredible price, comming from Gastón y Daniela (someone had to sell it as they had to move to a smaller place because of the crisis), to english china, rugs, curtains, or silver cutlery. Everything fit for use.
ReplyDeleteI must say I find Tu Trato a place that is worth exploring if you are looking for diferent furniture, good quality, old or new. And, best of all, no Ikea!
