I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Photography exhibition by Imogen Cunningham at Fundación Mapfre

Imogen Cunningham at Mapfre

In one of these past grey weekends, I took my car and went to Sala Azca belonging to Fundación Mapfre. Fundación Mapfre stands in Madrid cultural scene with two big locations, one closer to the art triangle (Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen) and the other one close to the Bernabeu Stadium, I’ve always found that it’s atypical place for exhibitions but the visit  to Imogen Cunningham Photo Exhibition was worth it.

The exhibition shows photographs from a very inspiring and modern woman who lived in the late 19th century, Imogen Cunningham. Born in the USA, she studied at the university and went abroad to Germany with a scholarship. She was a great photographer and kept taking photographs until her death, aged 93!

Very delicate photos, where the most common objects are beautiful and appealing like flowers or kitchens. She also photographed herself naked in a lovely picture, the only picture of her that I remember from the whole exhibition. Also very interesting photos of ballet dancers and famous writers and artists like Frida Kahlo.

I recommend it for grey days, it brights up your day!

  1. Please can you help me? We are English and we visited your beautiful city three weeks ago. There was a portrait exhibition running alongside the Jean Paul Gautier one and a picture by Robert Delauney has stayed in my mind. I would love to buy a print but cannot find one to buy.

The portrait was 'La Senora Heim'. It shows her wearing a hat, but I cannot find this particular print anywhere. The ones on offer are all completely different and don't seem in my opinion, to do the lady justice, as much as the one in your city.

If anyone could please point me in the right direction I would be delighted.

    Thank you

  2. Hello,
Thank you for reading my blog. I will try to get information about "la señora Heim" and try to get a print or a clue on where it can be found.

    Regards
