I am from Madrid, love the city and want to share my special addresses. Every day a new idea, place or thing to do in Madrid. Everything has been thoroughly tested but it is only a personal opinion.

Casa Hortensia - nothing better for a cold (or any other) day

This is a wonderful tip for a cold winter day (or for any day), start at plaza Barceló (you can park your car there or get by metro toTribunal station) visit the Museo Municipal at Fuencarral 76, then wander through different shops all through Fuencarral and end up at Casa Hortensia for a succulent and plentiful winter meal.
It is a very surprising place situated on the second and third floor of an office building. Food is typically from Asturias, but very, very highly quoted by all experts and non. The reason behind is that it is EXCELLENT.

Just the opposite to modern, minimal or fushion food. Heavy stews (platos de cuchara), patiently cooked with excellet genuine ingredients. Not much choice but all exquisite. We had a famous traditional fabada (beans stew) a more fancy version fabes con almejas (beans with clams stew) and merluza rebozada (breaded hake) and everything was memorable. Just bear in your mind that you need to order for less than half the people in your group. We were eight, ordered food  for three and had leftovers!

Ah! book in advance, even though the place is big it is packed!

You wouldn't ever find it if you didn't have the address...
