Mercato Ballaró - a nice Sicilian in Madrid

It isn't the first time I go to Mercato Ballaró but now, with a blogger view, I must say it is a very advisable place to eat Italian (Sicilian) food in Madrid.

The owner is Angelo Marino, who for more than a decade was the soul of Taverna Siciliana, the first-to-be Sicilian restaurant in Madrid.

The place is divided into two quite distinct zones. The ground floor “Mercato abajo” is casual and suitable for tapas and appetizers and open all day long. The first floor “Mercato arriba” is a formal restaurant just for lunch and dinner.

The offer downstairs is focused on snacking and quick food. Wooden tables, no cloth. Nice Sicilian appetizers "Involtini di zucchine ripieni di melanzane e scamorza " eggplant rolls with zucchini and scamorza cheese (a typical Italian smoked cheese), "Panzerotti ripieni fritti di primosale, acciughe and pomodorini" (fried dumplings stuffed with cheese and served with cherry tomato) and my absolute preferred: the “Parmiggiana” a multilayer eggplant cake with cheese and tomato.

Of course, the star is the pasta perfectly cooked al dente!

Cool and relaxed ambiance and quite crowded so book in advance.
